The luxurious Parkway condos at 2601 Pennsylvania ave., Philadelphia, PA needed to give crews access to the entire façade of their building, for repointing, masonry and window work, so they called Superior Scaffold.
This was a perfect time for our resident Mast Climber & swing stage expert, Bob Sarkisian, to snap some photos of just what goes into erecting a mast climbing job.
This is our heavy duty twin mast climber (MC-3615) capable of holding as much as 8,000 pounds on one work platform. The mast sections are light compared to other heavy duty climbers, only 110 lbs. easily installed by two men with no need for a crank up hoist.
Crews remove the equipment from the truck and get the necessary pieces put together. It is positioned near the spot where the towers will go. Here you see the masonry guys locating a suitable anchor (wall tie-off) for the mast, directly into the building – behind the bricks.
Each mast section is positioned and then the deck is put in place. The deck then hoists each section of the mast to the next position where it’s placed by crew members – essentially leap frogging its way up the entire face of the building until the last section is anchored at the top.
Then the mast climbing platform can run up and down as needed to complete the work.
This is a great way for crews to get at the entire façade of the building with all of their gear, equipment and supplies.
The other part of this job wasn’t accessible via mast climber so we used suspended scaffold instead. You can see just how nicely the Altrex modular swing stage fit into that recessed section of building.
Working in tandem with the swing stages and mast climber crews will be able to get access to the entire façade and complete the necessary work.
