Capital Health’s $777-million replacement hospital in Hopewell Township, N.J., features the latest technology and patient-centered services.

The 237-bed, six-story, 932,000-sq-ft hospital will feature, offices, medical-surgical units, labor and delivery suites, a nursery and intensive care units, all connecting through a four-story, glass-clad atrium.

Skanska, an $18 billion international general contractor based in Stockholm, chose Superior Scaffold to handle scaffolding, swing stages, and mast climbers for the prestigious project. Superior’s ability to design and build intricate structures was a huge factor in their decision.

Of particular note was the 4 story curved, glass-clad atrium that not only required work both inside and out, but a fake floor so workers could conduct necessary ceiling work as construction continued both above and below.

The new hospital is expected to be complete in October 2011 and replace the 112-year-old Mercer Hospital in Trenton, NJ.
