Unique Suspended Scaffold Solution, Huntsman Hall, University of Pennsylvania

I was looking for our next blogpost when one of our crew guys mentioned that they just got back from erecting this really unique job at Huntsman Hall at the University of Pennsylvania.  So I had to see for myself. Originally, MPG, who was doing a complete restoration, thought scaffolding could be erected on the second-floor outdoor courtyard and around windows that were narrowly framed by architectural columns. But there was not enough structural support on the lower level of the building, nor enough space between the columns to use traditional scaffolding or a high reach. MPG had floated a bevy...

Bridging the Future

These two pedestrian bridges span Convention Avenue and connect the brand new patient Pavilion to the existing Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine – permanently linking two of the most advanced medical facilities on the campus of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. They will allow patients and doctors to cross easily between the two. We had a huge hand in dismantling the old building where the Pavilion now sits. (read about it here)  We also worked with Penn Medicine several times on the new building construction (read here) so it was only fitting that when CM, LF Driscoll, Balfour Beatty JV,...

A renovation for the ARCH Building at University of Pennsylvania

Superior Scaffold salesman, Anthony Pini rocked the house on this job at the University of Pennsylvania’s ARCH Building (Arts, Research and Culture House) in Philadelphia, PA.   Not only did he meet the client’s needs on every phase, but he went so far as to bring the crews coffee and donuts on several occasions.  He’s is certainly the king of customer service for Superior Scaffold.      This is a very deceptive job from the outside because it’s shrouded from trees, signs, and netting.  It masks the major renovation going on both inside and outside of this historic building.  Built in 1929, it...

Superior Scaffold at Frick Laboratory, Princeton University, NJ

Superior Scaffold was called out to the Frick Laboratory at Princeton University to build scaffolding for crews to get access to the 3 floors of the structure.  Crews will then install trash chutes so they can demo the entire interior of the building.    Princeton University officials say that the former Frick lab will remain vacant until renovation funds become available. The Frick Lab is named after industrialist and art patron Henry Clay Frick (1849-1919).  The lab, built in 1929, housed the academic chemistry facilities for over 83 years making it one of the oldest functioning labs in the United States. It has been...

Superior Scaffold at the University of Pennsylvania, Market & 34th

University of Pennsylvania (U of P) is caulking and waterproofing the façade of their building at 3400 Walnut, (Market & 34th) Pennsylvania, PA  19104.    Superior Scaffold provided an intricate sidewalk canopy (sidewalk shed), with overhead protection, 2 blocks long that would allow construction work to go on above while keeping the businesses open underneath.    Superior also provided two suspended scaffolds (swings, swing-stage) to allow crews greater access to all areas of the façade. U of P turned to Superior because of the confidence they have for them to handle the safety requirements and guidelines set up by the city, state, and the university.  Superior...
