Spanning the globe to bring you constant variety of Scaffold. And this is certainly the thrill of victory – because in the shadows of the Ben Franklin Bridge sits a unique feat of engineering. A canopy!
All right, calm down all you adrenaline junkies out there (you know who you are – Bee) I’ll get to the point. This isn’t just your ordinary canopy, no. This one sits on top of Jersey Barriers. “How you doin’?”
Is this the first time we’ve ever done these? No. And it won’t be the last but it is unique and something fun to see to break up the monotony of staring at your blank computer screen all day.
This sits in Old City at the corner of N. 2nd St. and Race where there is a ton of automobile and pedestrian traffic. The new 197 foot tall new high rise is going up and Superior Scafffold was called in to provide the overhead protection system so work could continue above.
Only one issue; the client had already placed Jersey Barriers (for obvious reasons) and we had to work around them. Easy Peasy – erect our canopy using the barriers on one leg.
This sidewalk shed is 125’ long using system scaffold with steel and aluminum beams. It features lights, corrugated aluminum, tie-downs or anchors to the Jersey barriers, debris panels and then, as added protection, we’ve added 5 foot spreaders that are anchored to the sides of the jersey barriers.
Why? You ask. Well I’ll tell you? That extra spreader helps resist horizontal wind forces, prevents sway, and adds stability – especially if a vehicle were to clip the canopy. So, you see – it’s all about safety here at Superior.
I will continue to try to make your days as interesting as possible with these unique little interludes. Oh, don’t thank me. I thank YOU for taking the time to view our “Thrill of victory” canopy today. You all have an incredible day. You deserve it!
