This great looking old structure was known as the Bell Telephone Building back in the day. But in the early 1980's the government broke up what was one of the largest monopolies in US history. This effectively took what was the Bell Telephone System and split it into entirely separate companies that would continue to provide telephone service. They would be known as baby Bells.
