4601 Market Street (Phase 2 – Scaffolding) Access
We are back for phase two of the renovation process. This time around we are providing restoration crews access to the top portion of the building, including the 7 foot long wind vane ship. Yes, incredibly, that IS a giant wind vane.
I wish I could have gotten a close up shot of that old ship but as you can see the scaffold crew was just erecting the base portion when I got there.
Look at the corrosion that has built up over the years on the dome and the ship. Those will be brought back to their former glory. We’ve blogged about this project before and our work with asbestos abatement. You can read all about it here.
You can see our guys assessing the situation from the roof where a crane had deposited most of the scaffolding needed for the job. I love the action shots. I don’t get many of them so when I do, you get to see them as well.
The equipment was staged on the lower roof and you can see, in the following shot, how they had to get it all up the additional levels. It also shows just what care goes into making sure that the decorative portions are not damaged in the process. Our guys are the best in the business at making sure we leave no trace.
This post is dedicated to our own Miss Lourdes, who used to work inside this very building many years ago when it was the Provident Mutual Life Insurance company.
Here she is making sure things run smoothly at the Superior office. The previous talks were that this building was going to be turned into a new headquarters for the Philadelphia Police Department, Philadelphia Health Department, and City Morgue. I can’t be certain if that’s still the plan but I can be sure that we got crews to where they needed to be for a total exterior renovation.
We used system scaffold, with stair towers, ladders, hoists, and decked it in on every level to give crews access.
This incredible old building has come a long way since last year and it’s sure to be a magnificent renovation. I will try to put up some additional pics once it’s complete.
If you need access or scaffolding for any project call Tony P at Superior Scaffold today (215) 743-2200 or visit www.superiorscaffold.com to see more of our work.
And in honor of the glorious ship themed wind vane we present today’s musical numbers.
