This is the house where Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence, that all important document that would birth a nation.  Jefferson rented several rooms at the home of Jacob Graff, Jr, a local bricklayer – thus, the one of many names for this house.  And what’s crazy is that it’s a reproduction!  The original structure was built in 1775 and then torn down at some point.  This red-brick house at Seventh and Market streets was reconstructed in 1975.

Superior Scaffold was called in to provide scaffold support and overhead protection so crews could repaint and repair all of the woodwork around the windows, soffits, and fascia, and rake boards and even bargeboards.

This is kind of unique because there are two different types of overhead protection systems.  The first is a system scaffold canopy that runs on the Market Street side.  It was used so it could tuck up in closer to the building and bridge the two oversized windows.  There is a ton of pedestrian traffic on both sides.  And sitting on top of that sidewalk shed is a scaffold decked at every level for easy access.

And on the 7th Street side of the house we have an overhead protection system using frames, (our big 767 Philly frame) with a five level, decked out, system scaffold sitting on top of that.  There was more room for pedestrian traffic on that side of the building.

Years of weather took its toll on the woodwork and restoration crews are doing a fantastic job bringing it back to its former glory.
