Higher ground, Penn Medicine Canopy, 34th & Convention Center Blvd
We’ve been all over this project and most of our work has seemed to come in and around the giant hole where Penn Tower once stood (and is now the home of the massive Penn Medicine Pavilion).
But this bridge column canopy or overhead protection system at 34th and Convention Center Blvd really stood out. First, because it was on higher ground and second because it was a beautiful piece of work.
Stretching 135’ long by 8’ wide with a 300 lb. per sq/ft rating this canopy ran parallel to Convention Center Boulevard and beneath the pedestrian walkway and new steel for the Pavilion. We first erected 100′ of canopy and then were called back to add another 35′.
We used bridge columns here to match the giant walkway and overhead protection system we built next to the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology building. You can read about that here.
We also installed 4 foot debris panels and lighting. Client, LF Driscoll, used interlocking Jersey barriers for extra protection on the side facing the street.
We love working with LF Driscoll and the University of Penn. If you should need access, scaffolding or scaffold, call Pat at Superior Scaffold today (215) 743-2200 and he’ll keep you elevated.
Our musical number is from the one and only, Mr. Stevie Wonder… enjoy
