It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing
Superior brings the Swings and Overhead Protection to 401 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA.
The $70 Million dollar renovation at 401 North Broad continues. This time we provided 1100 lineal feet of canopy (overhead protection) all the way around the building and suspended scaffold everywhere to assist in the façade restoration. We were here on another job – you can read all about it on our blog.
Our “King of Swing”, Bob Sarkisian, has swing stages all around the exterior of this gigantic building.
Let’s look at the suspended scaffold first. It’s pretty cool to see the different sized platforms on just one side of this structure.
This old building once home to North American Publishing and Packard Motor company is now a giant data center or carrier hotel.
The new owners pledged $70 million dollars to renovate the 11 story, 1.3 million square foot, block long pale brick building.
Crews needed access to the exterior for façade restoration and Superior provided them with the necessary equipment. The platforms are Altrex and the motors are a mix of PowerClimber PC1 and BisoMac 210. This combination gave the crews the necessary reach and exposure to every part of this enormous building.
Let’s talk about the overhead protection all the way around the building. It required a few special adaptations – that’s why you will see a combination of system scaffold and frame scaffolding .
There were a few large bays or loading dock areas that had special height and width parameters and the best way to accommodate them was to use system scaffold.
You can see just how long these canopies are. This is huge building.
However, on the front of the building frame scaffold was used. This particular view show a double-wide frame canopy using our heavy duty 767 or Philly frame.
Steel and aluminum beams along with corrugated steel roof and debris panels were used all away around the building allowing business as usual as the exterior renovation continued.
Our goal is to always keep the business up and running while work is going on overhead. This old building should look fantastic once the work is completed. I will post photos of the finished product once they are available.
If you need overhead protection, canopy, or access to your façade call Superior Scaffold today at 215 743-2200 and ask for Bob – he’ll take care of you.
And as a tribute to our swing department – I take you all back to the big band era!
