It’s WINTER this summer at the Philadelphia Zoo!
Just when you think it’s too hot to go outside head over to Philadelphia Zoo for some frozen fun and experience a magical snow destination–WINTER.
Tube down Snow Leopard Slope, a 120-foot-long, 20-foot-high, snow-covered incline built by Superior Scaffold.
Make snow angels or toss a snowball or two in Snow Zone, a free-play area for all ages.
Or head into Polar Bear Pavilion designed specifically for little snow tots
Inside, kids can sled down a smaller version of the large ramp, make snow castles and play in the snow.
Which ever area you choose to visit it’s all about having fun in the heat this summer and learning about the connection between animals and snow.
Superior Scaffold and Philadelphia Zoo worked with snow-production company Snow Magic, which uses an “independent snow-crafting” (ISC) process to create the same kind of man-made snow found on ski slopes.
The only ingredient in ISC snow is water, which will be filtered and recycled throughout the summer to keep the exhibit going.
The ramp was built using system scaffold and ¾” plywood. The loading platform was 12’ wide X 16’ long X 20’ high with a set of stairs for visitors to climb up.
The incline itself is 16’ wide X 60’ long. It goes from and elevation of 20 feet down to zero in seconds via a sledding tube. It’s completely wrapped in a snow themed decorative containment mesh.
Our marketing director, Erik Highland, tried Snow Leopard Slope and says it’s a blast!

Superior also built the smaller ramp inside the pavilion as well as all of the walls, supports, and platforms for each of the areas in this exhibit.
We had a great time on this project and encourage anyone with children to come down and pay a visit.
The exhibit runs through August 20th. And while you are there be sure to visit all of the great animals from the big cats to the gorillas all around the 42-acre property.
Here are just a few of the animals nearby.
We were proud to work with the Philadelphia Zoo on this great exhibit! If you need a snow ramp or scaffolding or access call Tom at Superior today (215) 743-2200 and he’ll take care of you. Or visit www.superiorscaffold.com to see more
For our musical selection(s) today we start with The Bangles doing a Simon & Garfunkel song.
