New building construction.  That’s not something you see us writing about at Superior Scaffold.  We tend to show you the work we do renovating the classic old buildings.  But we actually do quite a bit of new building construction.  I just tend to focus on the old architecture because they make really pretty pictures.  Ha.  Don’t tell my boss.

But when the guys at Armor Masonry brought us along for this job we thought it was a great opportunity to showcase some really complicated work on the Alexander – a new 32-story residential tower located on the North side of Center City.

It’s hard to tell from the pictures but we had a total of 14 suspended scaffolds hanging on this job covering the entire façade.

Armor had a super tight schedule working with multiple trades and we were happy to provide the swing stages to help them meet the deadline.  The main focus was to provide crews access to caulk all the windows, doors and joints of the precast panels.

I like the fact that you can see the progress from these photos.  Armor’s Gene Rose said, “There were several obstacles during this project. The main one being time constraints. The building needed to be watertight so the interior finishes could remain on schedule.”

The solution was two mobilizations: The first from the 18th floor.  Installing the top rigging out of the window openings and caulking from 18 down utilizing 14 swings.  The 2nd mobilization was from the 35th floor and several lower offset roofs and balconies down to the 18th.

The deadline was met even while working with and coordinating swing moves with National Glass and Universal Precast.
