Christiana Hospital Expansion

Superior Scaffold tackles difficult Christiana Hospital Expansion in Newark, DE When Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE decided to expand their South wing they called on trusted masonry experts, Joseph Rizzo & Sons.  But Marc Rizzo, being a good production manager, took one look at this patient and realized that it was a little out of their normal scope – so he called Tony P at Superior Scaffold for assistance. Superior had to design and build a heavy duty, elaborate shoring system below the main level to hold the load of the entire frame scaffold, all the equipment and crews above it. Marc Rizzo,...

Penn Tower Scaffold / Shoring

Massive Scaffolding, Shoring, Mast Climber job at Penn Tower Philadelphia, PA This is a huge scaffold, shoring and mast climber job at the old Penn Tower.  The building is being demolished for the new Hospital Pavilion at the University of Pennsylvania.  Not only did we erect a giant scaffold all around three sides of the exterior…But we also shored up 16 floors at the same time! That’s correct 16 floors at the same time!  And we installed the 3 mast climbers on the opposite side of the building.   It all has a very specific purpose in the overall plan.  Look carefully, into...

Divine Lorraine, Scaffolding & Shoring

Divine Intervention – Scaffolding & Access of Biblical Proportions! This abandoned building is coming back to life.  And what I life it’s had.  This has some absolutely fantastic architecture.  Built back in 1892, the Divine Lorraine is going back to its original function - apartments.  Back then it housed some of Philadelphia’s wealthiest residents and soon will again. Superior Scaffold was brought in as part of the $44 Million redevelopment to provide the scaffolding and shoring support to give crews complete access to the exterior of this 10 story structure. The plan is to create over 100 luxury apartments and 20,000 square feet...

Forever 21, Shoring & Scaffolding

Shoring & Scaffolding, Forever 21 Forever 21 is building out their new location on Chestnut street and decided to enlarge the entrance way and windows on the first few levels.  They wanted theirs to look similar to Sephora with lots of light coming in the front of the store.  Superior was first called out to provide the scaffolding for the facade restoration - but later provided the shoring when crews realized just how much work it would take to create the new openings. Forever 21 asked if we could add shoring without removing the scaffolding.  So we came up with a solution...

Princeton Academy of the Sacred Heart

Princeton Academy of the Sacred Heart Sacred Heart is expanding this old structure in a big way, updating the old 4 story brick school building to a more open-style learning environment. But to do that – they needed to take out most of their support walls and put new steel and concrete in to carry the weight. Normally, not a big deal because you do it one floor at a time. But this job was doing it ALL AT ONCE… Yes, 4 massive floors of concrete and steel being supported or shored up at once. Superior Scaffold engineer, Bob Robinson, had to design...

Smith Memorial Playhouse – Scaffold & Shoring

Smith Memorial Playhouse The building was designed solely as a play space for children by one of Philadelphia’s most prominent late 19th century architects, James H. Windrim. The open layout of the 24,000 square foot three story brick and masonry structure features floor to ceiling windows, porches and room upon room with a variety of play opportunities for children. Superior engineers designed a system scaffold that would allow the $7 million renovations to take place while the building and grounds remained open for business. Superior’s task was to allow workers access to the playhouse roof, exterior walls, cornice and windows, as well...

Brown Hall, Princeton University

Brown Hall, Princeton University As part of their new green initiative, Princeton University is also upgrading Brown Hall, which was designed in 1890 and has served as an upper-class dormitory for many years. This renovation will create a new building portal (archway) in the south facade of the structure allowing a new point of access and egress from Brown’s interior courtyard. Superior was brought in to install & dismantle shoring posts and beams on all 4 floors, also the basement, bathrooms, and archway. Granite stairs will eventually connect the higher elevation of the interior courtyard with the lower exterior walkway. The new archway...
