Superior Scaffold provides access to crews at Denbigh Hall, Bryn Mawr College
This is one of those jobs where we can let the pictures do the talking (well, for the most part). As most of you know, I didn’t get the nickname “Jib-Jab” for no reason. But I promise I’ll try to keep this to a minimum.
Superior Scaffold does love to work on historic buildings and we’ve build a reputation for being one of the best at getting in, erecting and getting out without leaving a trace – and this job was no different. We had to take the utmost care around this structure and the grounds built in 1891. Denbigh is a residence hall, or as we like to call them, a dormitory, located on central campus.
We erected approximately 475 lineal feet of system scaffold so crews could do a major window replacement and upgrade.
We placed work decks at each window level to allow the guys access to upgrade, reinstall, do some spot pointing and painting the window trim.
The top work deck was approximately 28’ high and the scaffold went around the entire building.
There were a few challenges for our crew, like adapting the scaffold to the curvature of the building and being careful not to get any heavy equipment on certain parts of the grounds.
This pic shows why Denbigh Green, just out front, is a popular spot for sunbathing, pick-up softball and frisbee. Our very own estimator, Pat McAndrew, reminisces, from a park bench, about when he prowled the campus back when it first opened ;).
All in all, the job went off without a hitch. We didn’t leave a trace and we were back working on another part of the campus a few weeks later (I will detail that job in the upcoming weeks).

A little history about Denbigh. It Opened in 1891, Denbigh was the third Bryn Mawr residence hall designed by architects John Stewardson and Walter Cope. Stewardson and Cope adapted the architectural styles of Oxford and Cambridge Universities to the Bryn Mawr campus, introducing the first examples of “Collegiate Gothic” architecture to the United States.
This song is dedicated to a very special person in my world. Take a moment to think about that special person in your life and then go out there and tell them just how you feel about them. Life is short people! Live, laugh, love!
