A house of many colors… Declaration (Graff) House, Jefferson House Scaffolding

This is the house where Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence, that all important document that would birth a nation. Jefferson rented several rooms at the home of Jacob Graff, Jr, a local bricklayer - thus, the one of many names for this house. And what’s crazy is that it’s a reproduction! The original structure was built in 1775 and then torn down at some point. This red-brick house at Seventh and Market streets was reconstructed in 1975. Superior Scaffold was called in to provide scaffold support and overhead protection so crews could repaint and repair all of the woodwork...

We are back for phase two of the renovation process. This time around we are providing restoration crews access to the top portion of the building, including the 7 foot long wind vane ship. Yes, incredibly, that IS a giant wind vane. I wish I could have gotten a close up shot of that old ship but as you can see the scaffold crew was just erecting the base portion when I got there. Here’s the skinny. And I do mean “skinny” on this job, people. You’d have to be the size of our marketing director to squeeze into this steam tunnel buried somewhere under the city of brotherly love. This utility tunnel, corridor or utilidor delivers steam to customers all around the city. Just like most things, me included, they need repair over time. The sister skyscraper to Harnwell and Harrison House is getting a much needed facelift after forty years of weathering the elements. (You can read all about the Harwell renovation job we did here last year on our blog.) This uniquely shaped building at 3901 Locust Walk is a 25-story apartment complex that houses roughly 820 residents and is part of the university’s student housing. This is the second post of many about our overhead protection systems at Bryn Mawr Hospital. As I mentioned in a previous post, Bryn Mawr Hospital is undergoing a massive $200 Million, 200,000sf Patient Pavilion addition and Superior Scaffold was called in to provide scaffolding support. We normally talk about building a loading/work platform or a debris chute but not a combo loading platform and debris chute in one. Well here it is - a combo platform at CSC (Corporate Service Company) in Wilmington, DE. We talk a lot about the jobs we do; mostly, those we design, deliver and erect. But we need to recognize a giant portion of our business and customer base – and that’s the customer installed rental equipment. This is one of those jobs.
