We have been all over the exterior of the Firestone Library, on the Princeton campus, doing renovations so this time I thought I’d take you inside. Just like our work on the outside, Superior Scaffold was brought in by GC, Massimino Building Corp. to give access to the entire ceiling area at the entrance of the library. Crews needed to demo the old ceiling to replace and upgrade ductwork directly above the entryway and lobby. We’ve been all over this project and most of our work has seemed to come in and around the giant hole where Penn Tower once stood (and is now the home of the massive Penn Medicine Pavilion). But this bridge column canopy or overhead protection system at 34th and Convention Center Blvd really stood out. This funky building sits on the corner of S. Stockton and E. Front St. I liked how symmetrical it looked. I’m not sure what’s inside but just from the outside it reminded me of one of the old radio buildings from the thirties. Check out the crazy radio tower on the top. RKO came immediately to mind but I know that this is modern. So what was Superior Scaffold doing there? We provided roughly 150 feet of canopy or overhead protection on each side and a swing stage (suspended scaffold) so masonry restoration crews could get to every inch of the façade....

This isn’t a big job but it has a very important distinction. If you look closely at the pictures you will see Superior’s Safety Director, Shawn MacDonald, doing a post installation inspection on this overhead protection system (canopy).
