Scaffolding St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Philadelphia, PA

This one was hard to miss.  If you are a regular in the Rittenhouse Square area – or were just passing through, St. Patrick’s Church has been a fixture here since 1839.  And when one of Philadelphia’s most prestigious old buildings needed major renovation work – who do you think they called?  Superior Scaffold was proud to have been chosen to provide the scaffolding and access work on this historic landmark.  Our decades of experience working with delicate buildings for renovation companies made us the perfect choice when Turner Construction won the contract. This project involved a ton of moving parts, from...

Superior Scaffold wins the 2024 GBCA Construction Excellence Award for Best Specialty Contractor!!!!

Each year the best in the business descend upon the city of Philadelphia to vie for top construction project honors.  And this year, Superior Scaffold took home the prize for the Best Specialty Contractor for our scaffolding work at Rowan University. This is a very cool project (the name gives it away) and you can read the complete blog here. In a nutshell: Superior Scaffold was called in by GC, MPG (Masonry Preservation Group), to help come up with a solution to remove the giant exterior pieces of limestone, label them and then put them back exactly where they should go without...

Transport platform at 1901 Walnut Street in Rittenhouse Square

Here's an awesome project in Rittenhouse Square where they needed to get men and material up to the top floor quickly for terracotta and masonry repair work. Our TP-2500 Transport Platform was just the ticket.  It can be used for a variety applications like painting, windows, masonry, drywall, and more.  This particular unit was just going from the ground to roof. One of the benefits of using a transport platform is that it has two modes and doesn’t require an operator like a regular buckhoist or construction hoist.  Mode number one is a material mode that allows just material to ascend the...

Surprise, surprise, surprise – Suspended Scaffold everywhere at 400 W. Elm, Conshohocken, PA

This article was originally titled, "Nuthin’ Fancy – But effective!"  Based on the third album from Lynyrd Skynyrd.  Panned by critics as a rushed effort; I beg to differ.  Lead singer, Ronnie Van Zant, was lyrically at the top of his game - cynical as could be with all the world touring and taking him away from his home and friends.  And what can you say about Ed King, Gary Rossington and Allen Collins and their southern twangy rock guitar riffs all over the album?  What’s this have to do with this job?  Well, I’ll tell you. They named the album...

Sharing the work in the City of Brotherly Love. Mast climbers, swings, scaffolding & shoring (6th & Walnut)

They call Philadelphia that for a reason! This was important for me to highlight because it happens more than you would know.  I’m talking about competing firms sharing jobs in the city of Brotherly Love. Sure, we all compete to get as much work as we can but there are times and jobs like these where one company just can’t do all the work.  We are competitive, but in the end, we all want the same thing: A safe, well built, completed project that we all can be proud of. I thank Dale Corp for letting me shed some light on an oft...

The Sphere in Vegas & Dome Scaffold, Rooftop Fixeos & Canopy in Philly

What’s Vegas got to do with this dome in Philadelphia, PA? Well, I’ll tell you.  We went to Vegas for a Scaffold Builder’s Challenge and the only thing I wanted to see was the U2 show at the new venue – the Sphere!  A 2.3 billion dollar, with a B, cinema/audio experience that’s supposed to be like nothing else.   Unfortunately, U2 was off the week we were there so we just drove past it on one of our many lunch/client meetups.  It was quite impressive with just the videos visible on the outside of the massive dome.  I can only imagine...

Superior Scaffold takes the podium at World of Concrete (WOC) 2024 – SAIA’s Scaffold Builder’s Challenge

Eight of the biggest, baddest scaffold companies in the United States entered the SAIA’s Scaffold Builder’s Challenge, at the 2024 Las Vegas World of Concrete, to vie for the title of best scaffold builder.  Each company sent a team of four erectors and one captain to compete in a challenge that not only graded for speed but also safety and sound building practices. The challenge was held indoors this year, probably a good thing, because it rained for two solid days in Las Vegas!  Yep.  So much so that many people including myself had flight delays coming into the city.  The...

Unique Suspended Scaffold Solution, Huntsman Hall, University of Pennsylvania

I was looking for our next blogpost when one of our crew guys mentioned that they just got back from erecting this really unique job at Huntsman Hall at the University of Pennsylvania.  So I had to see for myself. Originally, MPG, who was doing a complete restoration, thought scaffolding could be erected on the second-floor outdoor courtyard and around windows that were narrowly framed by architectural columns. But there was not enough structural support on the lower level of the building, nor enough space between the columns to use traditional scaffolding or a high reach. MPG had floated a bevy...

Each year the best in the business descends upon the city of Philadelphia to compete for top construction project honors.  And this year, Superior Scaffold took home the prize for the Best Specialty Contractor for our scaffolding work at The Dell Music Center. This is a very unique project and you can read the complete blog here. In a nutshell: Superior Scaffold was called in by GC, Bittenbender Construction to help come up with a solution creating 3 free-standing walls around the clamshell shaped stage to hold thick containment wrap in place during winter, keeping the elements out, while they renovated the...

3 Floating Walls – Dell Music Center – Scaffolding, Containment Wrap & Tie-Down System

When I first walked on site to take the pictures of the Dell Music Center, I was blown away. I have never seen anything quite like the many steel tie-backs, like marionette strings, holding a scaffold down. I had to take a minute and think about all of the engineering and imagine everything that went into this design. As I wondered around the building and saw the other anchors and tie-down methods being employed on 3 sides of the stage it really stood out as something unique. It's not the biggest job we completed last year but it was probably the...
