University of Pennsylvania Quadrangle – 71 Chimney scaffolds!!!

You read that correctly!  71 Chimneys!  Look at our scaffold all over the entire Quad complex! The Quadrangle, commonly known as "the Quad," is a historic dormitory complex at the University of Pennsylvania that opened in 1895. Designed by Cope and Stewartson, its architecture was inspired by Oxford and Cambridge universities, featuring a blend of medieval and Renaissance styles. Today, it is organized into three distinct college houses: Fischer Hassenfeld, Ware, and Riepe, and remains a central landmark of undergraduate life on campus. (this from their website). Smokestack Scaffold – Work Deck and Transport Platform

We’ve done many of these and it always amazes me how our guys build them.  And even more amazing is how the restoration crews work up there and accomplish their tasks. In this case, Jon Goodroad and his crew from Joseph Dugan, Inc., called Superior Scaffold to get them up to the top so they could actually remove the top 6 feet of the smokestack, repair the damage, recap it and then restore the remaining parts of the chimney, making it sturdy and safe once again. They originally wanted stairs to get the men to the top of the 80’ tall smokestack....
