I wanted to show this job because it’s very important to see why we erect overhead protection systems.

Our emergency services team was called out to install this canopy around the entire perimeter of the building. Engineers and inspectors had seen that the façade was actually pulling away from the structure and wanted this sidewalk shed put into place while they booked crews for the repair work.

It’s a good thing they called us. Because a few days after we installed it, there was a storm with pretty high winds and it actually blew sections of the façade off of the building and sent them crashing down on the overhead protection system we installed.

These pieces fell from the 12th and 14th floors, respectively. I can only imagine the damage they could have done if there were people underneath and our canopy was not in place.

You can actually see a corner of the façade material that penetrated the corrugated steel on our canopy.

And in this shot, you can see how the falling debris dented their entryway. The façade looks to be a fake brick, stucco and mesh type of composition.

Harrison Plaza is located in North Philadelphia and is a 16 story high-rise building consisting of 1, 2, 3 & 4 bedroom apartments and is occupied and heavily trafficked throughout the day. These overhead protection systems can actually save lives and prevent serious injury.

After this initial exterior failure, engineers called out our emergency services team and we were back on the job within 12 hours extending the size and scope of the canopy to protect the residents while the work commences.

As always, here’s a groovy little gem that describes what went on inside the building after we installed our canopy. Yes, not only was the exterior having an issue but one of the units inside caught on fire.
