The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and the City of Philadelphia are joining forces to provide health care to children and adults in South Philadelphia. They are relocating two existing clinics, a CHOP-owned pediatric primary care practice currently located in South Philadelphia, and the City-owned Health Center, which serves children and adults into one new building.

They called Superior Scaffold to install mast climber work platforms inside the elevator shafts to assist the wall construction inside.

I know we’ve shown you one mast climbing work platform in an elevator shaft this summer (at Eagles stadium) but this one is a touch taller than that one. This one spans 300 feet from the ground to the top of the elevator shaft. Yep. That’s a tall order but what a smart way to construct the inside of an elevator shaft.

And just look at how snug that MC-10 is in there.  Like a glove.  So tight in fact, that crews often ask if it was designed for this very purpose.  It’s not but we can certainly say it’s becoming more common to use them in this manner.  It’s a match made in heaven.

There is plenty of room for workers, gear, and material. As you can see from these pics the bricks are already up and now crews are putting on the insulation board and getting them finished.

Superior provided two MC-10 mast climber platforms (one for each shaft). This is the inside of the new building – just to give you an idea of where they were located.
