Real Housewives of New Jersey haunt gets shored up – Shops at Riverside, NJ
The Shops at Riverside is a very high-end mall which caters to the affluent suburban areas surrounding Hackensack in Bergen, Essex, and Passaic Counties in New Jersey as well as Rockland County in New York State. In addition, a number of shoppers from New York City, particularly Manhattan, are drawn to the mall for its upscale offerings minus the New York sales tax on clothing.
The mall is known to have some Real Housewives of New Jersey guests from time to time.
Now, our trusted bargain hunter – shopper extraordinaire can vouch for this since he secretly IS an honorary member of the RHONJ and shares close ties with the other chapters.
But on this occasion he wasn’t hunting for the latest Manolo Blahnik’s or Versace he was helping shore up the parking structure next to Saks Fifth Avenue.
Even the prettiest of things needs a touch up now and then (just ask Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star – Camille Grammer). But the deep underbelly of the parking garage needed some immediate attention.
It seems that 3 of the support beams (2 under the garage and one at the exterior of Saks Fifth Avenue) were compromised. The expansion joints that were put into the concrete encasement in 1977 were starting to fall apart. Water was getting into the masonry and rusting the columns.
Engineers thought it best to repair or replace these faulty supports. So the call went out to the ultimate shopper (Pat “Garage Sale” McAndrew) at Superior Scaffold to supply the shoring. Crews shored up the beams attached to the columns so they could be repaired or replaced.
You can see from the pics that this was more complicated than they first thought. A portion of the wall into Saks had to be removed to get at the 3rd support column. And most of the work had to happen above the drop ceiling in the garage – yes, a drop ceiling inside the parking garage (that’s fancy).
Here you can see them shoring up the beams from the lower level of the parking garage. Engineers required steel beams on the floor to help distribute the load up above.
These are 20 kip shore posts and hi-load frames in the parking garage.
Let’s hope that Pat and his crack team of surgeons/scaffolders can help this mall age as gracefully as the fabulous Lisa Vanderpump.
This a glimpse behind the scenes of the glamorous facade. Soon, Saks Fifth Avenue and the Shops at Riverside will be once again ready for their close up.
So if your building is in need of a nice lift and tuck – call Pat at Superior scaffold (215) 743-2200 and he’ll bring the equipment to get it looking shiny and new.
