Superior Builds “Ice Bridge” at 2012 Bridgestone NBC NHL Winter Classic @Citizens Bank Park, Philiadelphia, PA

It's a big game.  Some even say "a holiday tradition".   This year’s game features an intense rivalry between the top two teams in the Atlantic Division as the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers battle outdoors at Citizen’s Bank Park in Philadelphia, home of the Phillies. This is the fifth iteration of the NHL Winter Classic, an event created by both NBC Sports and the NHL. Superior Scaffold was brought in to build the "Ice Bridge" that spans the fan's walkway (concourse) down to the rink itself.  The scaffolding allows the pipes that bring in the water and chemicals to...

New Copper Swages or Ferrules for Suspended Scaffold wire ropes

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkAl5lSL1Fo Our Superior Scaffold Suspended expert tells us about the new copper swages. Why they are stronger, safer, and better than traditional bolt on ferrules or fist grips for wire ropes and tie-downs. Very simply put - time and safety.  Traditionally, you had to make sure each of your fist grips were tightened sufficiently before getting to work.  With these new copper swages you are safe and secure and working the minute you hit the job site. Another helpful hint from Superior Scaffold.  Also see scaffolding...

Video Tour of the Virgin Mary Statue on top of Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGyQT5xBYLs Here is a video tour of the scaffolding and the Mother Mary statue on top of Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden, NJ. It clearly shows the damage that the earthquake did to her as well as the necessary guy-wires to hold her down in case of aftershocks. Superior Scaffold had to transport all of the scaffolding materials through a maze in the hospital and even assemble most of the sections on a lower roof and then hoist them up where they could be put into place. You can see the difficulties in just getting to the statue...

Virgin Mary statue taken down for repairs

Superior Scaffold was called back to Our Lady of Lourdes to add another level of scaffolding to the existing structure so crews could more easily remove the sections of the statue of the Mother Mary. It has been taken down in sections and sent off for repair.  As you know, it was damaged in the earthquake.   I've compiled a few of the news stories here  - including a CBS news clip in which you can see the damage directly after the earthquake and the day before Superior's emergency response team raced in and secured her in place.   http://www.flickr.com/photos/65584817@N08/6322633281/   Virgin Mary Statue Atop Lourdes Hospital...

Cool Technology X-Ray for a facade renovation at the Golden Nugget Hotel Casino! Why?

Now I'll be honest with you.  I'm a sucker for cool technologies being used in innovative ways (just see my previous blog entry about the hanging scaffold system).  But when I learned what Superior Scaffold had to go through to get their giant mast climbers up to do the renovation work, I had to blog about it. Did you  know that they actually had to X-Ray the cement on the side of the building to locate floor slab tie locations?  Yep.  And after having it explained to me it makes total sense.  You see the tall (dual) masts for the Mast...

Ever wonder how they do bridge repairs over water? A hanging scaffold system!

This is very unique way to get beneath bridges to make repairs. Instead of anchoring a barge in the water beneath the bridge, or parking a giant truck with a bridge inspection bucket (like a cherry picker with a platform)  above it they can suspend a platform from the steel beams and girders beneath the bridge itself. [caption id="" align="alignnone" width="604"] Superior Scaffold hanging scaffold system[/caption] [caption id="attachment_180" align="alignnone" width="604"] Beam Clamp[/caption] I was on it yesterday and it's as stable as traditional ground based scaffolding.  I was shocked.  Those brackets essentially hold the weight of the scaffold platform beneath it and all...

Getting Press for our company Part 4 – Success story #2 – The Cover of Access Lift & Handlers Magazine.

It’s crazy just how the world works sometime.  We had just gotten our stuff to Vince at SA Magazine and the article hadn’t even come out yet when someone in our office remembered being contacted by Lindsey Anderson over at  Access Lift & Handlers Magazine (part of KHL group).  Again, we turned her name over the Erik who told her about the work we were doing over at Independence Hall.  She was excited when she saw the images.  She even thought that we would get the cover shot of the magazine.  Yeah! So, we went back to the press release and...

How we got Press for our Company – Part 3 (Success)

Everyone will tell you, that in business you need a bit of luck once in a while – and this was no different.  We had everything together and ready to go but who would we get it to? And as bit of luck would have it, while going through our contacts, we remembered an email we had gotten from Vince Brennan, the editor at Scaffold Industry Magazine a few months prior, asking what we had going on.  Bam.  We gave Erik Highland, our photographer and marketing guy,  Vince’s name and number and said – “have it him.”,  which he obviously did,...
