Suspended Scaffold and overhead protection all around 17th and Market!

This is an impressive job!  Not only from a scaffold or access point of view, but on every level.  GC, Clemens Construction really did a great job at 17 Market West transforming this 18 story office tower into luxury units. Originally built in 1957, this complete interior/exterior conversion is a prime example of adaptive reuse, aligning with evolving market demands and sustainable construction practices. Superior Scaffold brought out an army of swing stages to help with the exterior renovation. A total of 14 suspended scaffold units around the building, all helping crews reskin the entire structure and reach areas for adding new steel,...

Superior Scaffold’s debut at the Miller Theater – scaffold, swings, truss and overhead protection!

Superior Scaffold was called in by GC, Clemens Construction, to provide overhead protection and suspended scaffold for the renovation of the Miller Theater, at 250 South Broad Street, within the Avenue of the Arts cultural district of Center City Philadelphia. The Miller Theater is the most prestigious location for touring Broadway shows, so the building needed to look as good as the entertainment it is putting on.  Superior provided the swing stages (suspended scaffold) that crews used to reach every inch of the facade for cleaning, repairing, replacing and repointing. One of the biggest challenges was to span the iconic Miller Theater...

Surprise, surprise, surprise – Suspended Scaffold everywhere at 400 W. Elm, Conshohocken, PA

This article was originally titled, "Nuthin’ Fancy – But effective!"  Based on the third album from Lynyrd Skynyrd.  Panned by critics as a rushed effort; I beg to differ.  Lead singer, Ronnie Van Zant, was lyrically at the top of his game - cynical as could be with all the world touring and taking him away from his home and friends.  And what can you say about Ed King, Gary Rossington and Allen Collins and their southern twangy rock guitar riffs all over the album?  What’s this have to do with this job?  Well, I’ll tell you. They named the album...

Sharing the work in the City of Brotherly Love. Mast climbers, swings, scaffolding & shoring (6th & Walnut)

They call Philadelphia that for a reason! This was important for me to highlight because it happens more than you would know.  I’m talking about competing firms sharing jobs in the city of Brotherly Love. Sure, we all compete to get as much work as we can but there are times and jobs like these where one company just can’t do all the work.  We are competitive, but in the end, we all want the same thing: A safe, well built, completed project that we all can be proud of. I thank Dale Corp for letting me shed some light on an oft...

Unique Suspended Scaffold Solution, Huntsman Hall, University of Pennsylvania

I was looking for our next blogpost when one of our crew guys mentioned that they just got back from erecting this really unique job at Huntsman Hall at the University of Pennsylvania.  So I had to see for myself. Originally, MPG, who was doing a complete restoration, thought scaffolding could be erected on the second-floor outdoor courtyard and around windows that were narrowly framed by architectural columns. But there was not enough structural support on the lower level of the building, nor enough space between the columns to use traditional scaffolding or a high reach. MPG had floated a bevy...

Suspended scaffold, canopy and more at 510 N. Broad

From a hole in the ground to a new mixed use apartment complex.  LVL North, at 510 N Broad, offers an artful blend of stylish apartments and luxury living.  At least that’s what their website says. No matter how you say it, this complex situated in Philadelphia’s “avenue of the arts” neighborhood will certainly create some buzz when it’s completed. Superior Scaffold was called in early on this project by GC, Clemens Construction, to give access support along the way.  We started with a stair town in the hole when they broke ground and then erected a canopy/overhead protection system all the...

Superior Scaffold wins 5th GBCA Best Specialty Contractor Award

Superior Scaffold is proud to win the GBCA Best Specialty Contractor Award for the Reading Terminal Market Swing Solution. Each year the GBCA (General Building Contractors Association) recognizes the highest quality of workmanship and building innovation by Philadelphia area companies and we are honored to be included. Judges reviewed each nomination for workmanship, project management details, originality, innovative elements, and special techniques or materials. The project in a nutshell - there was virtually no way to get restoration crews to the side of the Reading Terminal Market building safely.  So Superior Scaffold's Bob Sarkisian came up with a radical idea that...

Mission Impossible: Scaffolding the Dome on top of the Tropicana Casino, Atlantic City

Ahhhhh, so here we are, 33 stories above the famed beach at Atlantic City.  On top of the world-famous Tropicana Atlantic City, Boardwalk Hotel & Casino.  Did I say on top?  I believe I did.  And not metaphorically either, but physically.  Why, you ask?  Well, today we are showing you one of those insanely crazy suspended scaffold designs that Superior Scaffold’s, Bob Sarkisian, came up with to solve a problem. And let me be the first to say, “this job looks much easier than it really is.”  If my boss would let me fly a drone or pilot a small helicopter like...
