Love in an elevator – Mast Climber at Children’s Hospital, Philadelphia, PA

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and the City of Philadelphia are joining forces to provide health care to children and adults in South Philadelphia. They are relocating two existing clinics, a CHOP-owned pediatric primary care practice currently located in South Philadelphia, and the City-owned Health Center, which serves children and adults into one new building. Penn Medicine began construction on their new 178,000 square foot advanced care pavilion (Powelton Avenue and N. 38 Street) and called swing stage specialist Bob Sarkisian at Superior Scaffold to provide the suspended scaffold necessary to get the facade work done. I love it when I can detail a unique job and this was a perfect example. Superior Scaffold was called into the Kaiserman JCC to help shore up the ceiling joists so crews could repair the support brackets up against wall. There were a couple of challenges – the first being that the scissor lift had to get in behind the scaffolding so crews could get to the brackets for the repairs. As Louis Prima once sang, “Swing, swing, swing” – oh wait, close… “Sing, Sing, Sing – (with a swing)” so we just added the W. Sounds better this way. But that’s just what Superior Scaffold did on the third phase of this project. (See part 1 – and part 2). The Sterling House Apartment Homes is a unique building at the corner of JFK blvd and 18th in downtown Philly. A lot of the renovation work at The Sterling House Apartments (18th & JFK Blvd) is being done at the TOP of the building. Updating the fitness center with an additional 1500 square feet, new equipment, personal TV’s, and larger windows with fantastic views of the city. Adding a rooftop social deck with lounge seating, gas fireplace, and glass windscreens all around. They are also doing modifications to the rooftop pool itself.
