Transport Platform at Broad & Walnut

Transport Platform at Broad and Walnut, University of the Arts This is one of those serendipitous situations where everything just falls into place. Our estimator, Tony P, was talking to C. Erickson & Sons about a job and they asked if we had an elevator, like a Buck Hoist, for their project at Broad and Walnut. They needed a way to get men and material in and out without using the interior elevators. “Well, actually we have something better,” said Superior’s Tony P. “We’ve got a TP-2500 transport platform that will let you bring personnel and material up and down without the need of a professional...

Scaffolding Drexel University Main Building – The “Great Court”! This building is a fantastic example of old world craftsmanship. Completed in 1891 it features some the coolest artwork on the 35 foot tall archway entrance to the main building on Chestnut Street – known as the “Great Portal”.  Just look up and you’ll see 12 relief medallion portraits of leaders in their various fields, from Galileo to Newton, forever emblazoned on the building’s Italian Renaissance stucco representing the wide of array of disciplines taught at the university.  Now, with that said, we are doing work on the inside of the main Drexel University building...

Skylight Scaffold & Work Deck

Rowan University, 5 story skylight scaffold and work deck I will say, that when I went to take pictures, the building superintendent for Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey, told me that our guys where extremely accommodating and that he was blown away at how they were able to build a five story scaffold in and around all of the obstacles and still allow students and faculty to get to their locations. As I said in the blog - l'll let the pictures do the talking! Thanks to Rowan University and W.J. Gross, Inc. for allowing us to be a part of this repainting and window replacing of...

Rowan University Scaffolding

Scaffolding 600 N. Campus Dr., Rowan University This giant facade restoration and coping replacement job at 600 N. Campus Dr at Rowan University weathered the storm and came out looking new again.  What do I mean by that?  It was the end of winter and for some strange reason we got an inordinate amount of rain making parts of erecting this job challenging but as you can see from the photos our guys completed the task and it looks fantastic. Because of the size and shape of the building we scaffolded it, using system scaffold, in three phases.  We started on one end and then...

Scaffolding a Legend

Scaffolding a legend. Lucy the elephant, Margate NJ. You can’t miss her. They say you can see her from eight miles away. She’s big, bold, beautiful and a survivor!  Lucy the Elephant, the six-story tall piece of zoomorphic architecture located in Margate, NJ, is a national landmark constructed of wood and tin sheeting featuring several rooms accessed through staircases in her legs. She was built in 1881 by James V. Lafferty to promote real estate sales and attract tourists to Margate and the Jersey Shore. And boy has she delivered. As the world’s oldest surviving example of zoomorphic architecture, she is getting...

Jefferson Cherry Hill Hospital

Let the Pictures do the talking! Jefferson Cherry Hill Hospital Expansion/Addition 5 stories of system scaffold. Odd shapes and customized layouts on every elevation. Giant dance floor at the top. One incredible job! Superior Scaffold provided the scaffolding for the new 22,000 square-foot atrium/lobby as part of the hospital’s expansion/addition at the Cherry Hill campus. And as of this month Kennedy Hospital will be known as Jefferson Cherry Hill Hospital as part of a merger between Jefferson Health and Kennedy Health. The cool thing about this job was the layout. We had to follow the curve of the atrium and unique design of the interior to erect this huge scaffold. There...

Restoring the Forrest Theater

Pulling back the curtain for opening night. Restoring the Forrest Theater. Forrest Theater, 1114 Walnut Street Center City area of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Forrest Theater is a beautiful, classic, theater built in 1928 in the Center City area of Philadelphia.  Built at a cost of $2,000,000 it was one of architect Herbert J. Krapps more elaborate theaters.  It boasted many of the conveniences now expected in modern theaters.  The interior is intricately decorated with gilt detailing (silver gilded with gold) and silk fabrics.  And that’s exactly why Superior Scaffold was brought in.  We provided the painting and restoration crews access to the entire perimeter of the theater including the walls, ceiling and all...
