Divine Lorraine, Scaffolding & Shoring

Divine Intervention – Scaffolding & Access of Biblical Proportions! This abandoned building is coming back to life.  And what I life it’s had.  This has some absolutely fantastic architecture.  Built back in 1892, the Divine Lorraine is going back to its original function - apartments.  Back then it housed some of Philadelphia’s wealthiest residents and soon will again. Superior Scaffold was brought in as part of the $44 Million redevelopment to provide the scaffolding and shoring support to give crews complete access to the exterior of this 10 story structure. The plan is to create over 100 luxury apartments and 20,000 square feet...

Scaffolding Swimming Pool

Dancing & Scaffolding on Plymouth-Whitemarsh Swimming pool Dancing on the swimming pool?  What?  Only if you have a retractable hardwood and steel pool cover like back in the day. And unless you are Jesus, you are going to get wet.  So what, pray tell, do we mean by this statement?  Well, have a look.  Our scaffold geniuses, led by Nick Lazer, erected this massive rectangle of scaffold inside the giant Plymouth-Whitemarsh pool so work crews could tear down the old ceiling and mechanicals. Our crew delicately worked with the slope of the pool, from shallow to deep end, to provide an amazingly stable...

Cantilever Scaffold on 28th Floor

Cantilever Scaffold on 28 Floor, Philadelphia, PA Superior Scaffold was called in to help crews get to the decorative steel structure on the outside of the top of this new building construction at 3601 Market Street. But how could we get them and their equipment out far enough to work safely on this structure at the top of the building? A cantilever scaffold from the floor below.  For those of you not familiar with a cantilever system it’s basically a way to use leverage to extend out so the weight of the new deck is supported by the floor below. The initial thought was a...

Seneca Niagara Casino Hanging Work Platform

This was an enormous multipoint suspended platform job. What this project entails is getting crews up underneath the ceiling while the casino remains open for business as usual so they can get the new HVAC and mechanicals installed. The solution came in the form of what is called a multi-point suspended scaffold. It’s not only wide, but stable enough to hold equipment, rolling towers, HVAC piping, etc. These giant work platforms actually hang from chains from the arched trusses at the ceiling. It’s netted in so nothing can fall off of the sides and its sturdy enough to support just about...

Philadelphia’s historic Independence Hall clock tower

Philadelphia’s historic Independence Hall clock tower The birthplace of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitutional Convention was due for a major renovation. Superior Scaffold was chosen to handle this 14-month, $5.6 million dollar venture because of their skill and experience with working with delicate historic projects. This current version of the tower, designed by William Strickland, was built in 1828, after the original, housing the Liberty Bell, was found unstable and had to be dismantled. Several major challenges confronted the Superior Scaffold design team. First, scaffolding had to be erected so workers could get at every aspect of the building renovation,...

Hanging Bridge Platform, Cherry Hill, NJ

Hanging Bridge Platform, Cherry Hill, NJ Superior was called in to provide a very unique way to get beneath this bridge to make repairs. Instead of anchoring a barge in the water beneath the bridge, or parking a giant truck with a bridge inspection bucket (like a cherry picker with a platform) above it we chose to suspend a platform from the steel beams and girders beneath the bridge itself. The brackets hold the weight of the scaffold platform beneath it and all of the workers, equipment, and parts necessary to make the repairs. It’s effective way to get beneath this structure. By...

Parc Rittenhouse – Cantilever 3 Floors

Parc Rittenhouse Sullivan Construction needed to add three floors to the top of the Parc Rittenhouse building in downtown Philadelphia and knew of Superior's experience with high exposure cantilever scaffolds. We had successfully completed a 10th floor cantilever system around three sides of Philadelphia's historic Victory Building. Utilizing shoring towers inside and aluminum beams jutting out the windows, Superior was able to lay a solid work deck around the entire 17th floor of the building. We then erected a 45' high systems scaffold to allow worker access to each of the floors as they were constructed....

Children’s Hospital

Children's Hospital When L.F. Driscoll asked us to design a 90' high, totally enclosed negative pressure wrapped, systems scaffold tower for the front of Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, we said "No problem". Then they told us the scaffolding had to be completely free standing (to allow the installation of a continuous glass panel system)! So Superior's engineers designed a 90'high scaffold with 2 attached backup towers (widening and stabilizing the base) which tied only to a roof system of concrete weights. The system was rated to handle high wind loads and provided a safe work environment with a minimum of disruption...
