Superior Scaffold wins the 2024 GBCA Construction Excellence Award for Best Specialty Contractor!!!!
Each year the best in the business descend upon the city of Philadelphia to vie for top construction project honors. And this year, Superior Scaffold took home the prize for the Best Specialty Contractor for our scaffolding work at Rowan University.
This is a very cool project (the name gives it away) and you can read the complete blog here.
In a nutshell: Superior Scaffold was called in by GC, MPG (Masonry Preservation Group), to help come up with a solution to remove the giant exterior pieces of limestone, label them and then put them back exactly where they should go without damaging the scaffold or building in the process.
The challenge was how to get the 500 pound pieces of stone up and out from between the scaffolding and the building safely without damaging either. To do so, a crane was deployed to thread the needle in between the scaffold and facade, where a crew member would attach it to the stone and then hoist it out like a life sized game of operation.
MPG did an awesome job of removing and labeling the thousands of pieces and then putting the puzzle back together again after cleaning, sealing, and repointing everything.
This was truly an innovative approach to a project like this. Thanks to MPG (Masonry Preservation Group) who took us along for the ride.
