The Sphere in Vegas & Dome Scaffold, Rooftop Fixeos & Canopy in Philly
What’s Vegas got to do with this dome in Philadelphia, PA?
Well, I’ll tell you. We went to Vegas for a Scaffold Builder’s Challenge and the only thing I wanted to see was the U2 show at the new venue – the Sphere! A 2.3 billion dollar, with a B, cinema/audio experience that’s supposed to be like nothing else.
Unfortunately, U2 was off the week we were there so we just drove past it on one of our many lunch/client meetups. It was quite impressive with just the videos visible on the outside of the massive dome. I can only imagine what it’s like inside.
That brings us to the job in downtown Philly at a prestigious building that shall remain nameless. No, it’s not quite the same size and scope of the Sphere but it did remind me of it.
Superior was called in by GC, Pullman to provide a very unique system scaffold that would allow restoration crews to get all around and on top of the marble dome to do repairs, repointing and refinishing.
Unfortunately, I can’t get into much detail or disclose the client but it was truly an awesome build around one of the city’s most famous spaces.
We also used Fixeos at the top portion of the building to get crews to the very precipice to renovate, repair, and clean and seal.
The Fixeos are a lighter alternative to full blown, heavy mast climbers or when the project can’t be swung with traditional suspended scaffold rigs.
They are also great for use when the roof won’t hold a lot of weight or the access to get the equipment is challenging – both of with were at play here.
The two disciplines, traditional supported scaffold below and the light weight Fixeos above combined perfectly giving pullman the double access threat they needed to rock this job on time and within budget.
We also had a canopy, overhead protection system all the way around this building to protect pedestrian and auto traffic as renovation work went on above.
