Read MoreThe sister skyscraper to Harnwell and Harrison House is getting a much needed facelift after forty years of weathering the elements. (You can read all about the Harwell renovation job we did here last year on our blog.) This uniquely shaped building at 3901 Locust Walk is a 25-story apartment complex that houses roughly 820 residents and is part of the university’s student housing. Superior Scaffold was called in to give masonry restoration crews total access around the entire structure. We did so by providing ten swing stages or suspended scaffold platforms on three sides of the building, and also by installing one...
Read MoreThis is the second post of many about our overhead protection systems at Bryn Mawr Hospital. As I mentioned in a previous post, Bryn Mawr Hospital is undergoing a massive $200 Million, 200,000sf Patient Pavilion addition and Superior Scaffold was called in to provide scaffolding support. This 205 foot long system scaffold canopy runs along the front side of the North Medical Office building to the garage entrance and provides a walkway for patients and pedestrians who would typically enter on the other side of the building. They are currently being re-routed from the other side of the building due to the...
Read MoreWe normally talk about building a loading/work platform or a debris chute but not a combo loading platform and debris chute in one. Well here it is - a combo platform at CSC (Corporate Service Company) in Wilmington, DE. Our customer called Superior Scaffold and asked if we could come up with a solution to load material into the building while at the same time allowing debris to be moved out. And this is what we came up with. You see, this ain't our first rodeo folks (see below). But this one is constructed from shoring posts and hi-load frames and not system...
Read MoreWe talk a lot about the jobs we do; mostly, those we design, deliver and erect. But we need to recognize a giant portion of our business and customer base – and that’s the customer installed rental equipment. This is one of those jobs. It’s where a client (or customer) will call Superior Scaffold and request a specific type of scaffold or equipment like these swing stages. We will pull the order, deliver it to the jobsite and then pick it up again once they are finished. We have many clients who install and operate our equipment. There is a caveat, however, and...
Read MoreSpanning the globe to bring you constant variety of Scaffold. And this is certainly the thrill of victory – because in the shadows of the Ben Franklin Bridge sits a unique feat of engineering. A canopy! All right, calm down all you adrenaline junkies out there (you know who you are – Bee) I’ll get to the point. This isn’t just your ordinary canopy, no. This one sits on top of Jersey Barriers. “How you doin’?” Is this the first time we’ve ever done these? No. And it won’t be the last but it is unique and something fun to see to...
Read MoreI’ll be the first to admit that among the scaffold disciplines, “shoring” isn’t necessarily the most aesthetically pleasing. Most of the time it’s relegated to the dark dingy crawl spaces deep underground but every now and again we get to shed some light on this creature from the underworld. This time, we have a mirrored image on the exterior so you can actually see what normally goes on in the inside! Yes, this pillar of shoring, if you will, is replicated on the inside of the school - with the exception of the additional floor supports. Superior Scaffold was called out...
Read MoreThis is a giant job with many phases. Just scroll through the pictures and you'll see its size and scope. I'll do my best to condense all of the parts into a cohesive post. So here goes! Superior Scaffold was brought in, by General Contractor – Domus, Inc., to provide the scaffolding and shoring support to give crews complete access to the exterior of this 10-story structure for a massive renovation. This is part of the $44 Million redevelopment of the Divine Lorraine Hotel. In a nut shell, this beautiful hotel is coming back to life. And what a life its...
Read MoreThis is one of those jobs where we can let the pictures do the talking (well, for the most part). As most of you know, I didn’t get the nickname “Jib-Jab” for no reason. But I promise I’ll try to keep this to a minimum. Superior Scaffold does love to work on historic buildings and we’ve build a reputation for being one of the best at getting in, erecting and getting out without leaving a trace – and this job was no different. We had to take the utmost care around this structure and the grounds built in 1891. Denbigh is...
Read MoreNow, this is the second way to scaffold a swimming pool so crews can get to the inside ceiling area for work, renovation or additions. The first way, as we showed you, in this article at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School, was to scaffold the entire pool and then continue the scaffolding right up until just beneath the ceiling where we added a deck or dance floor. This way can be used when there are only sections of the ceiling that need to be addressed. We scaffold the entire pool area and then deck it in using steel plank and ¾” plywood to...
